    MontanaNRCS, I just stumbled across your video after finding 2 towns in your county with questionable pronunciations. I'm a 1st. class nerd on this subject, having nearly 2400 US places on my computer with that description, and wondered if you can help me. They're Devon (DEV-un or deh-VON), and Galata (accent on 1st. or 2nd. syllable, and the 'a' as in 'fat' or 'far'?) Thanks.

    The Montana ......so called " ranchers " neglect cattle by having them so far away from home that they cant even get to them ! Then when there is a major winter storm they whine and complain that they cant feed their cattle. Such as Mike on " My Wyoming Life " Leaves his cattle out and when baby calves freeze to death......whine about it ! Duh......... its winter time !!!!!! Use some brains !

My first year I rent a land near urals in russia that has never been treated , I spent a lot on tilling and less on fertilizer , I planted Strube korolev 3d fast and sugar hybrid but it’s tolerated to root rots , I won war with other plants but now rots are developing that is such a hard crop - sugar beet especially for newcomers

    Can rotavator be used? We have lots of weed.

    • @MontanaNRCS
      @MontanaNRCS 2 роки тому

      A rotavator could be used to control weeds but it would not improve soil health. One of the main principles of soil health is to minimize or eliminate disturbance. A rotavator would have a pretty significant impact on soil biology, aggregate stability, organic matter, and drying the soil. It would be a better and cheaper option to control the weeds with livestock if possible.

    very interesting. I am desiring to grow here in Calif foothills at 3100'. Temps are 95-100 for 3-4 months. We get some snow and some freezing but not a lot. My main problem is rabbits, gophers, squirels, deer, and maybe mice. whew! my outdoor garden in galv tubs wrapped with wire fencing was an epic fail. Do you think a tunnel would keep most critters out? I like the idea of the drop down sides rather than the roll up for keeping critters out. how does that work exactly? thanks for sharing! -Geo

    • @MontanaNRCS
      @MontanaNRCS 2 роки тому

      Thanks for your question. The specifications of each individual high tunnel may vary depending on the exact model purchased. This would include how the sides are raised or lowered. We would recommend talking to a high tunnel manufacturer representative and your local NRCS field office (find contact information at www.farmers.gov/contact) for more information.

      Thank you for your question! We offer financial assistance through the Environmental Quality Incentive Program for two basic styles of high tunnels-Quonset and Gothic. The Quonset style is best suited for more mild areas and Gothic where wind and snow load are more prevalent. There is no maximum size limit to the high tunnel system. However, there is a practice payment cap for NRCS financial assistance, based on a 30-foot x 72-foot structure. Also, high tunnels must be a minimum of 6-feet in height at the peak of the structure. You can find more information about the NRCS EQIP high tunnel initiative from the NRCS website at www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/detailfull/national/programs/?cid=stelprdb1046250.

      Thank you for your interest in USDA financial assistance programs. The program that offers financial assistance for High Tunnels is the Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP). And yes an individual can apply for the EQIP Program. The NRCS accepts applications for all financial assistance programs on a continuous basis. We have field offices in almost every county in Montana and you can apply for the EQIP program there in the local field office. I would encourage you to contact the local field office and inquire about EQIP and the High Tunnel Initiative. Find contact information for local field offices at www.farmers.gov/service-center-locator. You can also find some basic information about the High Tunnel Initiative on our website at www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/mt/programs/financial/eqip/a2e106b6-e5b3-478d-818e-f0be3ddafcbf/, including a fact sheet.
